Membership Benefits

membership1Networking

Membership in the SIVB gets you in touch with other scientists worldwide who are engaged in similar activities. SIVB members
have access to the latest research and techniques in in vitro biology through journals, newsletters, and meetings.

Discounts

Members get back a return on their membership investment and then some! — through substantial discounts on meeting registrations, publications, job placement opportunities and information resources.

membership2Publications

Members receive reduced fees on all SIVB publications including our premier journals, In Vitro Cellular & Developmental
Biology, which ranks in the top 30% of cell biology journals. Our journals present original research devoted to the advancement
and dissemination of basic and applied knowledge concerning the in vitro cultivation of cells, tissues, organs, or tumors
from plants and animals, including humans. For purchasing , please visit the SIVB Membership discount site on Springer.

membership3Committee and Section Society Support

SIVB supports the activities of its affiliated geographical branches, committees and sections. Branches of the society
are geographical independent groups of members who meet to foster the exchange of ideas and information through educational courses. There are currently three branches plus a national historical society branch.

Committees are encouraged for member participation in both the administrative and scientific communities of the Society.
SIVB also has representation with several affiliated societies.

Sections are developed around various disciplines which bring members together with particular technical interests to share specialized information. There are currently two sections. SIVB members may join the sections at no additional cost.

  •  In Vitro Animal Cell Sciences Section (IVACS)– emphasizes invertebrate and vertebrate cell, tissue and organ culture, whole embryo culture, organ type differentiation, morphogenesis, toxicology, alternative models to the use of live animals and related fields, and provides a mechanism to promote and encourage development of mechanistically oriented in vitro assays for the assessment of toxicological points through education and training, promoting the development of in vitro models for target organ and system toxicology, and providing scientific direction in in vitro toxicology development.
  • Plant Biotechnology Section (PBS) – includes but is not limited to vegetative propagation of flowers, trees and shrubs: understanding plant growth and development; cell fusion; biochemical selection and mutant recovery; and the transfer of genetic materials that cannot be accomplished by normal sexual crosses from one species to another.

membership4Annual Meeting Membership Opportunities:

Members have the opportunity to present exciting and up-to-the minute developments in various areas of in vitro biology at annual meetings, have abstracts published by SIVB, obtain knowledge and insight of the latest in in vitro biology and see products, services, publications and equipment from exhibitors. SIVB meetings are large enough to attract major speakers, yet small enough for informal discussions with friends and colleagues.

membership5Audio Visual Library:

The Society maintains a large selection of films and videos on in vitro biology, including topics on cell culture and techniques, general cytology, oncology, bone, hematology and blood vessels, cardiac tissue, nervous tissue, invertebrate cell and organ culture and methodology. These films range from early classics in the field to more recent ones. These films and videos are a great tool for teaching purposes. SIVB members receive discount rental rates on all films and videos.

membership6Awards

The Society on an annual basis enhances professional credentials of members with outstanding achievements in the field of in vitro biology. Most SIVB awards are presented at the Annual Meeting. For criteria and other details, please visit the Awards Information page

  • Lifetime Achievement Award -The Society for In Vitro Biology established the Lifetime Achievement Award in 1989 to recognize outstanding late-career scientists who have made significant contributions to the field of in vitro biology and/or in the development of novel technologies that have advanced in vitro biology.
  • Distinguished Service Award -The Society for In Vitro Biology established the Distinguished Scientist Award in 2014 to recognize outstanding mid-career scientists who have made significant contributions to the field of in vitro biology and/or in the development of novel technologies that have advanced in vitro biology.
  • Fellow Award- recognizes scientists for outstanding life work in cell biology. SIVB recognizes current active members for a total of 10 years.  A SIVB Fellow has made outstanding contributions in their area(s) of specialization to include: research, teaching, or administration in the area of public, government, or private service sectors.
  • Young Scientist Award – recognizes professionals who have contributed significantly to advancement of the in vitro sciences, generally within ten years of completion of their terminal degree. Each section (IVACS and PBS) may annually recognize up to one outstanding young scientist in this manner. The award will only be given in years when the recipients are sufficiently meritorious.
  • Student Awards – The SIVB Student Award Program provides recognition and financial support for student’s who have contributed and made outstanding achievements in the field of in vitro biology.  There are currently 8 student award categories.
