Election Reflections: Governance in Action
Dear SIVB Members,
I am pleased to announce that the SIVB officer election results for the 2026-2028 term have been finalized. Our membership has selected outstanding leaders to serve as Board of Directors members, Committee Chairs, and Section Officers. On behalf of the entire Society, I extend my sincere appreciation to all candidates who participated. Your commitment to SIVB demonstrates the strength of our professional community. Whether elected or not, your willingness to contribute is invaluable.
Elections represent far more than a changing of the guard: they are fundamental to SIVB’s long-term viability. Through this process, we infuse our leadership with new ideas, perspectives, and innovative approaches. Each cycle brings forward members with diverse experiences and visions, preventing stagnation and keeping SIVB at the forefront of our scientific fields. Elections also foster accountability, ensuring our Society’s direction reflects the collective priorities of our community. When members vote, they actively shape SIVB’s future, strengthening the bond between leadership and membership and creating a sense of ownership that extends throughout the organization. Beyond selecting immediate leadership, each cycle identifies emerging leaders while providing experienced members opportunities to contribute at higher levels, ensuring sustainability across generations.
Elections serve as natural inflection points for strategic reflection, opportunities to assess our direction, celebrate accomplishments, and identify areas for growth as newly elected officers assume their roles. This periodic renewal enables SIVB to adapt to changing scientific landscapes, funding environments, and member needs while maintaining our core mission. When members observe peers stepping forward to serve, it inspires broader participation in committees and initiatives, enhancing our organization’s vibrancy. A transparent, democratic governance structure also strengthens SIVB’s credibility within the broader scientific community, as partner organizations and funding agencies respect societies demonstrating good governance through fair elections.
As we welcome our newly elected officers, we can be confident SIVB is well-positioned for continued growth. The diversity of talent and vision in this election reflects a healthy organization committed to excellence in science, education, and professional development. I encourage all members to support our incoming officers and remain engaged through committee service, mentorship, conference participation, or staying connected with colleagues. Together, we will continue advancing in vitro biology and strengthening our professional community.
On a separate note: Exciting scientific events, networking opportunities, student and post-doc activities, and numerous possibilities to share your research await you at the 2026 In Vitro Biology Meeting in Reno, NV, June 6-10. We invite you to renew your membership, register for the meeting, submit your abstract, and join us in celebrating SIVB’s 80th anniversary. For program updates and important deadlines, please visit the 2026 Program update article in this issue of the In Vitro Report, the meeting website or contact the SIVB Business Office.

Piero Barone
