Distinguished Service Awards

The Society for In Vitro Biology (SIVB) has thrived for decades thanks to the extraordinary dedication, passion, and selfless commitment of its volunteers. Since its founding, SIVB has remained a vibrant scientific community advancing research in plant and animal cell biology, tissue culture, and biotechnology achievements made possible through the tireless efforts of members who generously contribute their time and expertise. Since 1993, SIVB Presidents have had the privilege of formally recognizing individuals who go above and beyond in their contributions to the Society’s mission and vision through the Distinguished Service Award.

This year’s recipients were celebrated at the 2025 In Vitro Biology Meeting, held June 7–10 at the Hilton Norfolk The Main in Norfolk, Virginia, and now I am honored to recognize them once again in the pages of In Vitro Report, ensuring their contributions are permanently recorded in our Society’s history.

Addy Alt-Holland, PhD

Dr. Addy Alt-Holland was recognized as Past President for her invaluable guidance and mentorship to me as I became the Society’s President. Her steady counsel, institutional knowledge, and support have been instrumental in ensuring smooth leadership transitions within SIVB. Beyond her advisory role, Dr. Alt-Holland has served as one of the principal architects and driving forces behind the MATCH Mentoring Program a transformative initiative that continues to shape the professional development of our members.

Raj Deepika Chauhan, PhD

Dr. Raj Deepika Chauhan was honored for her outstanding contributions to strengthening SIVB’s membership initiatives as Chair of the Membership Committee. Under her leadership, the committee has implemented innovative strategies to recruit, engage, and retain members while ensuring SIVB remains an inclusive and welcoming organization for scientists at all career stages. Dr. Chauhan has also demonstrated dedicated leadership in advancing the MATCH Mentoring Program. Her strategic vision and tireless work have been essential to building a stronger, more connected SIVB community.

Annisa Belfetmi-Stone, PhD

Dr. Annisa Belfetmi-Stone was celebrated for her role in developing the MATCH Mentoring Program in her capacity as IVACS (In Vitro Animal Cell Sciences) Vice Chair Membership. Her contributions have helped establish a framework that fosters meaningful connections between mentors and mentees across the Society.

Ahmad Omar, PhD, and Heqiang “Alfred” Huo, PhD

Dr. Heqiang “Alfred” Huo and Dr. Ahmad Omar were recognized for their significant contributions to both the 2025 scientific program and fundraising initiatives. Their efforts ensured the 2025 Annual Meeting featured cutting-edge scientific content, engaging sessions, and valuable networking opportunities for attendees. Equally important, their fundraising work has been essential to sustaining SIVB’s mission supporting student awards, enabling educational programming, and expanding opportunities for members at all career stages. Their commitment to scientific excellence and organizational sustainability exemplifies the comprehensive service that advances SIVB’s impact.

To each of these exceptional individuals: thank you for your dedication, remarkable generosity with your time, and devoted service to our Society. Your contributions not only elevated the 2025 Annual Meeting in Norfolk but continue to advance SIVB’s mission and inspire our entire community to reach new heights. The success of any professional society depends on members who give of themselves for the benefit of others. You have demonstrated this principle in the most profound way, and your legacy will continue to influence SIVB for years to come.

Please join me in congratulating these outstanding colleagues and expressing our heartfelt appreciation for everything they have done and continue to do for the Society for In Vitro Biology.
