Dr. Hong Luo is awarded the 2024 SIVB Fellow Award

It was with great pleasure that Pon Samuel and I nominated Hong Luo to be recognized as a SIVB Fellow for the Plant Biotechnology Section.   Dr. Luo is a clear example of what it means to be a SIVB Fellow – amazing dedication to the field of Science in general and to the Society for In Vitro Biology.  Dr. Luo has been an extremely active member of SIVB not only with PBS, but also within the Board of Directors.  He served as PBS co-chair and then chair for the meeting and delivered an excellent set of interesting topics and speakers.  His talent for meeting organization was further tapped to deliver on the 2023 program where he was overall chair.  This meeting was extremely successful.  He is also currently serving on the board as a member at large for PBS.  He, further, successfully developed and delivered on grants for funding SIVB meetings. He is a constant, active participant in so many ways.

On the research side, Dr Luo is world renown and has been instrumental as a researcher in laboratories from China to the EU, to the US.  He has published extensively in high impact journals and has been able to secure several millions of dollars funding for his research.  He is a mentor for students and postdocs as well as an educator and always encourages and supports their engagement to present and get involved.  He critically edits for high impact journals and serves within multiple scientific societies.
