Distinguished Service Awards

The SIVB is known for its standing as a leader in in vitro biology, the caliber and breadth of its Annual Meetings, speakers and scientific presentations, and the many opportunities for professional and personal growth of its members in all levels of their careers. Since 1993, SIVB Presidents have had the pleasure to present the Distinguished Service Award to members who have given commendable service in support of the organization as a whole, and the annual meeting in specific, leading to the 2024 World Congress on In Vitro Biology in St. Louis, MO. As the President of SIVB in the 2022-2024 term, it was my honor to present the 2024 Distinguished Service Awards to the following members who were willing to ‘roll up their sleeves’, ‘go the extra mile’, and do so much more on behalf of our Society:

Allan Wenck

Allan Wenck, for his six-years of devoted service in the roles of SIVB President-Elect (2018-2020), President (2020-2022), and Past President (2022-2024), serving on the Board of Directors, and successfully leading our Society through the COVID-19 pandemic and creation of the SIVB virtual Annual Meetings.

Barbara Doonan

Barbara Doonan, for her dedicated and continued service as SIVB Treasurer, her diligent work on the Board of Directors, and her significant contributions to our organization as a whole.

Michael Dame

Michael Dame, for his effective and successful service as SIVB Vice President, Chair of the Development Committee, and serving on the Board of Directors in the 2022-2024 term.

Michael Fay

Michael Fay, for his years of engaging and productive service as the Chair of the Publications Committee, serving on the SIVB Board of Directors, and as Co-Editor-In-Chief of SIVB’s In Vitro Report together with Sylvia Mitchell.

Todd Jones

Todd Jones, for his four years of committed and enthusiastic service as Plant Biotechnology Member-at-Large on the SIVB Board of Directors from 2020-2024.

Cindy Goodman

Cindy Goodman, for her four years of committed and passionate service as an In Vitro Animal Cell Sciences Member-at-Large on the SIVB Board of Directors from 2020-2024, and for successfully serving as the Co-Chair of the Local Organizing Committee of the 2024 World Congress on In Vitro Biology in St. Louis, MO.

Veena Veena

Veena Veena, for successfully serving as the Co-Chair of the Local Organizing Committee of the 2024 World Congress on In Vitro Biology, and securing significant grant funding support for this meeting in St. Louis, MO.

Dwight Tomes

Dwight Tomes, for his service as the Chair of the Awards Committee in the 2022-2024 term, and as the dedicated, enthusiastic, and ever-engaging photographer of the SIVB.

Michele Schultz

Michele Schultz, for working tirelessly with her Innovative Essentials team in support of the 2024 World Congress on In Vitro Biology in St. Louis, MO, and for her unwavering commitment and dedication to the sustainability and continued growth of the SIVB for years to come.

This award recognizes their service to the SIVB and the extra efforts that they put forth throughout the past year in support of the mission, vision and values of our Society as well as its positive impact and continued growth. Piero Barone, Ahmad Omar, Hong Luo, and Joyce Van Eck, who were recognized for dedicating a significant amount of time and efforts in preparing and successfully submitting applications for different grant funding mechanisms in support of the SIVB’s 2024 World Congress on In Vitro Biology and the 2025 Annual Meeting. Raj Deepika Chauhan who was recognized for her significant work with the 2024 Local Organizing Committee and the Development Committee in support of the 2024 World Congress on In Vitro Biology.
Lori Marcum who was recognized for her extended years of service to our Society and her significant support of the SIVB’s mission of fostering exchange of knowledge of in vitro biology of cells, tissues, and organs from both plants and animals, including humans.
