We hope you are as excited as we are about gathering for the first time in Norfolk, Virginia for our next SIVB Annual Meeting from June 10 – 14. The Mayor of Norfolk even sent us this terrific welcome to gather in their charming city.
But before you take that plane, train or automobile to join us, we wanted to provide you with some information and updates, so you have everything you need in advance of the 2023 In Vitro Biology Meeting. Take a moment to learn what’s in store in Mermaid City!
THE FINAL SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM IS AVAILABLE ONLINE!
SIVB’s meeting is being hosted on an EventScribe website and through a mobile app shared through a private link that will be made available to those who have registered in advance for the In-Person meeting and after the meeting for those who have registered for the On-Demand program. This year, we will be providing a post-meeting proceedings of the abstracts rather than an on-site abstract issue, so the mobile app will be essential for your participation in Norfolk. In advance of the in-person meeting, all In-person pre-registrants will be emailed the link to the special event website along with their personal access key and login. This means you can take the meeting on the go with you through a tablet or your phone! You will be able to take notes on presentations, network with other attendees, set your schedule, review abstracts, and more, all in the palm of your hand! If you are registering on site, you will be provided with directions on how to log in to access the content once you register. In the meantime, you can make your plans by viewing the full program online on the SIVB’s website.
Remember, if you didn’t register in advance, On Site Registration will be available at SIVB’s Registration Desk found at the 4th Floor Registration area of the Hilton Norfolk The Main, 100 East Main Street, Norfolk, VA 23510, Phone: (757) 763-6200, beginning on Saturday, June 10 at 7:00 am. In case you plan on registering once you arrive in Norfolk, here are the onsite registration rates.
VIEWING THE ON-DEMAND LIMITED ACCESS PROGRAM
Two (2) weeks after the in-person meeting concludes, all registrants of the On-Demand Limited Access program will be sent their individual link and access key to view the on-demand program content. At that time, you will be able to create an account to watch the pre-recorded presentations, view the virtual posters, and interact with both those who attended the meeting in person and those who are participating on demand like you through the My Experience networking options. Are you unable to travel to Norfolk, but still want to enjoy the scientific experience you can only find at an SIVB meeting? You can still register for the Exclusive On-Demand Limited Program through June 8!
REMINDER
All students, post docs, and research technicians planning to register on site: You will be required to provide proof of your student, Post Doc or Research Technician status when registering. This also applies to those who registered in advance but did not email their proof to our office by May 29. Proof of student status can be one (1) of the following: student ID, letter from your supervisor stating your current status, or current class schedule. Proof of Post Doctoral or Research Technician status would be a letter from your supervisor stating your current status as a Post Doc or research technician. If you do not bring this proof, you may be required to pay the regular registration rate to attend the meeting.

We also encourage you to take advantage of the Saturday Pre-conference workshops being offered. Come early and attend the Grow with the Flow: Advanced Flow Cytometry and Applications workshop where experts in the modern flow cytometry will be presenting and available to discuss on various cytometers; the Principles and Best Practices for Plant Genome Engineering Workshop which includes a 2 hour panel discussion on Plant Transformation and presentations on using state-of-the-art CRISPR genome engineering tools in plants; and the Design of Experiment (DoE) Workshop – Part II (Mixture Designs; R Statistical Software) workshop which will discuss the principles and tools to apply DoE to mixture and mixture-amount experiments and demonstrate how to set up and use the free open-source R statistical software for DoE.
SHARE IN THE EXCITEMENT AT OUR SILENT AUCTION
SIVB is thrilled to be holding our 21st annual silent auction fundraiser at this year’s meeting, This dynamic event was established by Marietta Wheaton Saunders as a way to support the SIVB and its Student Initiative. It is one of the most entertaining parts of the meeting, but it requires your support to be successful. If you have something you would like to donate to support the SIVB, just email [email protected] to let us know what you are bringing and its approximate value. You can drop it off at the SIVB Registration Desk at the 4th Floor Registration Area when you arrive on Saturday and we will happily include it in the Mermaid City Silent Auction which runs from Saturday night through Tuesday at 10:30 am. The auction will have interesting pieces for everyone to bid on with values ranging from a few dollars to priceless. Everyone is encouraged to participate.

This year, we are offering a number of special opportunities for you to enjoy some of the special attractions found in our host city, Norfolk. You can purchase tickets for these 2 events when you check in at the registration desk in the 4th floor registration area, but do so quickly as space is limited and they won’t last long!
Have you ever wanted to wander peacefully through stunning gardens? Join us on Tuesday evening, June 13 for a special dinner and guided tram tour through the Norfolk Botanical Gardens. Experience private access to over 60 different gardens and wander their stunning trees and blooming flowers at your leisure then be treated to a lecture on orchid micropropagation in the NBG collection while enjoying your meal. Tickets are $125 for transportation, garden access, dinner, and the presentation by Dr. Wallace.- Explore the rules of plasma physics and engineering to see how bioelectrics and bioelectronics use very high electric fields for very short times (nanoseconds) for scientific research, then explore the stars at Old Dominion University’s “stellar” planetarium. Tickets to this exciting event are $55 and include transportation, boxed lunch, tour and private show at the planetarium.
