The Fellow Award recognizes current members of the SIVB who have been active members for at least 10 years. A Fellow has made outstanding contributions in their area of specialization or discipline to include research, teaching, and administration in public, government, academic, or private industry activities. The Society for In Vitro Biology honored Harold Trick with a Fellow Award at the 2015 Society for In Vitro Biology Meeting in Tucson, AZ.
Dr. Harold Trick has made and continues to make outstanding contributions to the Society for In Vitro Biology and Plant Biotechnology. He earned his B.S. degree with a major in Biochemistry from the State University of New York (SUNY) in Binghamton, NY. He then earned his M.A. degree in Biology at SUNY; followed by his Ph.D. degree in Biology from Florida State University (Tallahassee, FL). He performed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at The Ohio State University in the Department of Horticulture and Crop Sciences under the mentorship of Dr. John Finer. During his Postdoctoral fellowship, Dr. Trick developed Sonication-Assisted Agrobacterium-mediated Transformation (SAAT) to improve transformation efficiencies. This novel transformation technique has contributed to the development of many current and in-progress transgenic crops, and is still widely used by many laboratories around the world. After completing his Postdoctoral fellowship, Dr. Trick joined the faculty in the Department of Plant Pathology at Kansas State University (Manhattan, KS), where he currently serves as Professor. Dr. Trick’s contributions to the field of Plant Biotechnology are evident with over 60 published authored and co-authored papers in peer-reviewed journals, a book chapter, over 100 abstracts, 7 patents, and numerous invited talks and interviews.

At Kansas State University, Dr. Trick teaches a Biotechnology course (Plant Path 610) and actively serves as a research mentor in the Plant Pathology Program. Since joining the faculty at Kansas State University he has mentored over 13 undergraduate students, 12 graduate students, 7 post-docs, and 5 visiting scientists.
Dr. Trick has been an active member of the Society for In Vitro Biology since 1994, and he has made outstanding contributions to our Society. He has served as the Chair of the Plant Biotechnology Section, and he is currently serving as the Program Chair for the 2016 World Congress on In Vitro Biology in San Diego, CA. He has published numerous papers in our Society’s journal In Vitro Cellular & Developmental Biology-Plant, and he currently serves as an Associate Editor for the journal. He has contributed to our annual meetings by organizing and convening symposia and plenary sessions.
It is evident that Dr. Harold Trick has made outstanding contributions to Plant Biotechnology and the Society for In Vitro Biology, and the Society for In Vitro Biology congratulates Harold on his 2015 Fellow Award!
