Conservation Biologist, Dr. Pierre Comizzoli, Will Deliver the Keynote Address at the 2014 World Forum on Biology in Savannah, Georgia
The Society for In Vitro Biology and the Society for Cryobiology are pleased to announce that Pierre Comizzoli, DVM, Ph.D., will deliver the keynote address titled “Technology and Ecology Aspects of Genome Resource Banking” at the Opening Ceremony of the 2014 World Forum on Biology in Savannah, Georgia on June 1, 2014 from 3:15pm to 5:00pm.
Dr. Comizzoli earned his DVM degree at the Veterinary School of Alfort (Paris, France). He then completed a Master’s degree in Reproductive Physiology at the University of Paris, and a Ph.D. in Life Sciences at the University of Tours in France. His graduate research focused on reproductive biotechnologies, such as artificial insemination, embryo transfer, in vitro fertilization, and gamete and embryo cryopreservation, for both bovine and deer species. Upon completion of his graduate studies, Dr. Comizzoli worked on the implementation of assisted reproductive technologies and genome resource banking for the conservation of ungulate species at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris, France. He then joined the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute at the National Zoological Park in Washington DC as a staff scientist. His work at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute is focused on the development of cryo-banking for rare and endangered species. As Chair of the Scientific Committee of the Sahara Conservation Fund, he is also in charge of conservation projects on wild carnivores and ungulates in Northern Africa and South-East Asia. Dr. Comizzoli is the recipient of several professional awards for his innovative research. These awards include: the Smithsonian Secretary’s Research Prize (2008 and 2012), the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (2011), and the Innovation Award from the National Research Council of Thailand (2012).
The Society for In Vitro Biology and the Society for Cryobiology are honored to have Dr. Pierre Comizzoli as the keynote speaker at the 2014 World Forum on Biology.
