SIVB Heads to the Northeast’s Creative Capital
This year’s 2013 In Vitro Biology Meeting in Providence, Rhode Island, will be the first time that SIVB has held our annual meeting in the Northeast USA since the early 1970s and we are excited to be back. The meeting will be held at the Rhode Island Conference Center from June 15 – 19, 2013 with hotel accommodations being offered through the Westin Providence.
We are pleased to announce that Steven Briggs will be the keynote symposium speaker during the Sunday, June 16 Opening Ceremony. Steve Briggs, Distinguished Professor, Cell & Developmental Biology, University of California San Diego, has been named as the Keynote Speaker for the 2013 In Vitro Biology Meeting. He will be speaking on “Protein Networks from an Atlas of Proteotypes.”
Dr. Briggs develops and applies proteomics methods to study the proteotype-phenotype relationship with a focus on signaling networks and plant immunity. Before moving to UCSD, he spent several years in industry at Pioneer/DuPont, Novartis/Syngenta, and Diversa/Verenium. Briggs co-founded the algal biofuel company, Sapphire Energy, and the proteomics services company, JadeBio. Dr. Briggs is a Member of the National Academy of Sciences (USA) and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. SIVB is very excited to have Dr. Briggs participating in this year’s event.
The Animal and Plant Program Chairs (Dr. Addy Alt-Holland and Dr. Zeng-Yu Wang) along with the Student Committee and Education Chairs (Jessica Rupp, Kerri Neugebauer, and Sylvia Mitchell) have assembled a very exciting agenda that includes the following Plenary, Animal, Education and Plant Symposia and workshops:

There are plenty of opportunities for students, such as free registration*, ability to apply for eight different Student Awards and the ability to submit their abstract to the Student Oral Presentation Competitions. Click here to read more about this year’s Student Opportunities.
Abstract submission is available now. Don’t forget to submit your work for consideration before the early bird deadline of January 15, 2013. Details on abstract submission can be found here.
Please make your reservations early for the 2013 Meeting in Providence. Plan to come early and stay late this year as there are numerous special events being planned before and after the meeting including a tour of the MA Biomanufacturing Education Center in Worcester at WPI, the Woods Hole Marine Biology Lab and even an old fashioned clambake! More information will be posted as tours and events are finalized.
