News from the In Vitro Animal Cell Sciences (IVACS) Section

Greetings to the Members of the IVACS Section:

As the IVACS Chair for the past two years, I have enjoyed working with the SIVB leadership, the IVACS officers and membership, the SIVB Business office, and the Plant Biotechnology officers and membership.  Becoming more involved with the SIVB has been a great experience and I would encourage interested members of IVACS to become more involved with SIVB. I especially want to thank my fellow IVACS officers, Cynthia Goodman, Brad Upham, and Yvonne Reid, who were instrumental to our Section’s success.  Thank you to Bill Smith for his leadership as SIVB President, and also thank you to Lucy Lee and Liz Roemer for their service on the SIVB Board of Directors.  The future of the IVACS section looks bright as we have a very capable leadership team (Brad Upham, Addy Alt-Holland, Michael Dame and Magnolia Ariza-Nieto) who will soon be starting their new roles as IVACS officers.  I look forward to seeing many of you at the 2012 World Congress in Bellevue, WA in June.

The American Type Culture Collection recently released the ATCC® Animal Cell Culture Guide – tips and techniques for continuous cell lines. The cell culture guide was included as an insert in the journal Science. The guide is a great resource for students who are learning in vitro techniques.
