Dr. Shinya Maki, Department of Applied Chemistry and Biotechnology, Niihama National College of Technology, Niihama, Japan is spending a 6 month sabbatical leave in the laboratory of Barbara M. Reed, USDA-ARS National Clonal Germplasm Repository, Corvallis, Oregon. Dr. Maki will be working on studies of methylation response of plant tissues exposed to cryopreservation.

Dr. Michael Horn was elected to the Board of Directors of Kitchen Culture Education Technologies Inc and its subsidiary the “Home Tissue Culture Group”. KCET was founded in 2007 by president and executive director, Dr. Carol M. Stiff, and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to promoting plant science education (www.kitchencultureEducation.org). We are hoping to utilize Mike’s expertise to find funding for workshops and supplies for our teachers and students.
