Report on the 2008 SIVB Student Committee Activities
The student led activities during 2008 SIVB annual meeting in Tucson, Arizona, were a great success this year. Nancy Engelmann (student committee chair, University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign) along with Philip Kauth (co-chair, University of Florida), and Liz Roemer (Education Committee chair) worked throughout the year developing a great program for the students. The program consisted of a cv/resume building workshop along with an interviewing session on Sunday night. So many students participated in the interview session that the volunteer interviewers were busy all night.

On Monday, the student networking luncheon featured David Songstad who described the path of his own career as well as tips for finding the right fit. Many student and senior SIVB member participants reported that they found the sessions useful and enlightening. The student committee would like to thank all the volunteers for giving the students the opportunity to interview, and the students who participated.
Tuesday morning was the Student Affairs Breakfast. Several important things happened at this breakfast. First, Nancy retired from the chair position, and Philip Kauth assumed his role as the 2009 student committee chair. Also, a new co-chair was appointed- congratulations to Richelle Monaghan (University of Waterloo). She is very eager and enthusiastic to help in the following years.
Finally, the students planned for next year’s workshop in Charleston, South Carolina. The schedule will be similar to that from 2008. We are excited to announce that Sunday will feature a networking workshop where students will learn during an information session how to effectively advertise themselves in order to find that dream job, and then will have the opportunity to advertise themselves to other meeting participants during the workshop portion of the session. The following day, students will learn about different career paths they may be interested in at the network luncheon, including governmental. Finally, at the student affairs breakfast a new co-chair will be appointed and the activities for 2010 will be planned.
Thank you to all who made the 2008 SIVB Student Activities a great success!
